Doctors warn of severe health dangers in new ‘peegasm’ trend

If there’s one thing we should have learned by now, it’s that internet trends are not to be taken seriously.

In the past six months alone, we’ve seen people chowing down on Tide Pods and snorting condoms for the sake of joining in with the latest online fad – and you’re probably aware of some of the dangerous consequences that arose as a result.

And now, as if these trends couldn’t get any stupider, people are attempting to achieve a “peegasm”.

“What the heck is a peegasm?” I hear you cry. Well, according to one Reddit thread on the topic, a peegasm is the (literally) orgasmic feeling of relief you feel when peeing after holding it in for so long.

As one guy described in the comments:

“My girlfriend recently told me if she’s had to hold her pee in for a while when she actually goes to pee, she often has orgasms that she feels all the way up her spine to her head. If she does ‘reverse Kegels’ while peeing, they’re even more likely to happen.”

And this isn’t something that’s specific to this one woman, either.

Dr. Charlotte Elder, a gynecologist, explained to the New York Post that there are certainly some links between having the urge to pee and experiencing sexual pleasure. “A full bladder, while you’re asleep, will stimulate your pelvic floor nerves a bit which makes you more likely to have a sexy dream which can trigger an orgasm while you’re asleep,” she explained.

But before you go chugging five glasses of water and waiting for the magic to happen, you might want to learn about the severe health risks that come with this trend.

“Bladders need to be treated with respect. It’s important to go when you need to go, not when you’re busting,” Dr. Elder explained.

If you delay going to the toilet too often – either because you’re trying to achieve a peegasm, or for a more common reason such as not being near a bathroom while out and about – you can actually stretch your bladder. This may not sound too serious, but some damage to the bladder can actually take years to recover from. In more extreme cases, in fact, the effects may be permanent.

As well as that, holding your urine for too long could result in a UTI, as it allows for harmful bacteria to grow and spread in the urinary tract. (Side note – if you want to avoid getting a UTI, you should always pee after sex.)

However, Dr. Elder also explained that “If you pee when you don’t need to go, you can reduce your bladder’s capacity to hold urine,” and that obviously isn’t particularly desirable, either.

So, the takeaway from this is pretty clear: don’t hold your urine for too long but also don’t use the bathroom when you don’t need to. Basically, when nature calls, answer it as soon as you can. Otherwise, you might encounter some serious problems in the long term.
